The Little Known Fact to Overcoming Pain in the Body

If you are suffering from pain in your shoulders, or your knees, or your lower back or any other parts of the body, and you bring your problem to a healer or a medical doctor, they will usually treat that particular part of the body only. For instance, if you have shoulder pain, they will only treat the shoulder. If you have knee pain, they will only treat the knee.

By treating only that part of the body that is painful, you may get some relief. However, to get lasting relief from that pain, there is one important thing that most healers are unaware of. The fact is the pain is produced 100% by one organ in the body, and that is ……. the brain!

The little known fact about pain in the body is that pain is constructed entirely in the brain. This doesn’t mean your pain is any less real – it’s just that your brain literally creates what your body feel. Pain is a warning system to protect you from harm. When you strain your neck muscles due to bad sleeping position the night before, the physical sensations are sent to the brain. The brain uses these signals from the body, along with emotions, beliefs, and past experiences to determine if, and how much, something hurts. Pain is a “warning” signal created by the brain to get your attention, and it can increase or decrease the volume of this signal, known as pain modulation. The brain itself has no pain receptors and cannot feel pain directly, even though it is the center for processing it. Even when pain is mostly “in your head” (such as chronic pain), it is not fake or imaginary; it is a real neural process, often involving changes in the brain’s emotional and sensory circuits. Because the brain is flexible (constantly changing), pain pathways can be retrained or rewired through therapy, exercise, and stress management. The old method of pain treatment looks only at the physical side and uses drugs such as opioids to manage pain. This method can work for acute pain (pain that came suddenly such as sprained ankle, injuries from car accident, gunshot wounds, etc.) but not effective for chronic pain (pain that took some time to come about such as heart disease, diabetic leg nerve pain, lower back pain, etc.). The holistic method asserts that chronic pain is influenced by multiple factors, including physical, emotional, social, and cognitive. Studies have shown that psychological factors such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, and stress can increase and exacerbate pain symptoms. Mindfulness and cognitive-behavioral therapy are effective methods for addressing such issues. They have been shown to help reduce the intensity and frequency of pain by teaching individuals how to manage their thoughts and emotions that may contribute to pain. Lessening the impact of these factors in chronic pain and improving mood can lead to an improved overall quality of life. Social factors can also play a role in chronic pain. The lack of social support, loneliness, and social isolation can worsen the burden of pain. Studies have shown that having a support network or being involved in group therapies can significantly improve individuals’ psychological resilience and decrease pain symptoms.
